Téa Cuggino - Sweet Dreams
Sleep paralysis is a condition in which a person, in the space between sleeping and waking, finds themselves unable to move while dream-like hallucinations appear around them. While the condition is technically harmless, it has the potential to be deeply disturbing. Sweet Dreams is a point of view film that explores the atmosphere of these episodes, combining rotoscoped pans around a seemingly empty room and 2D animated horrors. Based on my own experiences with the condition, the film conveys the helplessness of a sleep paralysis victim, and explores the fact that even when the dawn comes, the horrors of the night remain in the depths of the mind, where they always were, and always will remain.
